Shirley Briggs Houx
Daughter of an artist and with an excellent art teacher in high school, Shirley Houx learned the basics of drawing and painting at an early age. She
has been drawing and painting ever since. After raising her family, she continued her formal art education at the University of Science and Art of
Oklahoma where she graduated with honors and a professional degree in 1988.
Preferring to paint from life, Houx loves the immediacy of painting on location. "Plein aire" painting increases your ability to work quickly and
capture the essence of the moment," she says. The resulting spontaneity and freshness in her landscapes is echoed in her still lifes and portraits.
